i’ve never really thought of my life like a film.
but okay.
if it were a film…
here’s where i think it would start:
1. INT. KITCHEN – AFTERNOON
Fade in. A tiled kitchen in Soweto. Early summer. A kettle clicks off, but no one moves.
The camera is still — quiet, respectful. We watch a girl, maybe nine, sitting on the floor beneath the window. She’s barefoot, sketching something into a
soft patch of dust with her finger.
Outside, there’s birdsong and the low hum of a passing taxi. Inside, the fridge hums, but nothing else. No dialogue. No score.
Then: the curtain shifts slightly in the breeze, brushing against her shoulder. She doesn’t flinch. She just looks up, like she knows we’re watching.
That’s how it begins — with a girl, a pause, and the quiet knowledge that something unspoken has already started.
